Ministering Communities—Adult Ministries
History and Purpose
Ministering Communities exist to help our church better adapt to the size we have become and allow for growth as the Lord may choose to add more people. After several months of prayerful consideration with the Elder Board, the congregation ratified Pastor Mathis ' vision of a two-part development in adult ministries. The first part of his plan makes the Sunday time between worship services be primarily for relationship building. Ministering Communities, nicknamed MCs, were inaugurated in May, 2003.
In not diminishing the importance of Christian Education, MCs allowed for a second part of Pastor Mathis ' plan—the retooling of the traditional Sunday school toward offering a series of courses on the Christian faith. Each course has a set number of sessions and meets either on an evening night or on weekends. Learn more about this new ministry under the Christian Education section.

Description
MCs are multi-generational, sub-congregations of (ideally) between 35 and 70 people meeting on Sunday mornings following worship. Each has its own unique characteristics (see booklet), however, all allow for significant time for visiting, engaging in small-group prayer and discussing biblical themes around a table. We have four MCs. See the Communities Booklet section for current activities and study topics.
Each MC is led by a lay-team of men and women who meet several times a year for additional training, planning and evaluation.
